First Post for Professor Karl

Hello! My name is Greg. I live in Fresno, California and work in Madera, which is a small city about 20 minutes north from here. I have worked for Madera Unified School District since 2000 and began teaching 5th grade. I taught 5th grade for four years then moved up to 6th grade where I taught for two years. The following school year, I took a Teacher on Special Assignment (TSA) position as Technology Coach for the District. I provide support and training for teachers and students at three sites consisting of approximately 100 teachers and 1000+ students (there’s a lot of computers in there somewhere, too!)
I have only minimal experience with blogs. I have created a couple of them in the past but have not maintained them very much at all. I have looked for home recording blogs and have found a few that I like to visit now and then. I have never contributed to a wiki, nor have I created one…so I have lots to learn here. I have minimal experience with podcasts as well. I have created a few of them over the last few years, but I have had to relearn how to do it each time. I hope to give it another go this Summer and keep at it!
Our Technology department in Madera might be able to share a blog site like this one for posting tech-tips and video tutorials for their respective school sites. My idea at this time is to create a blog where each school site can have their own page(s) to house informationan and support materials for using technology at school. I don’t know….just an idea.

Yay! I’m glad I’m not the only one with limited wiki/blog/podcasting experience.

I love your idea of creating a blog site to share tech tips with teachers… It will be well received by the educators in Madera Unified!

I think creating a blog for each school would be a great idea Greg. I’m working with our union to add one to their website as well. The biggest issue we are concerned with is who will moderate it?

How long have you been doing the TSA job? I just became our school’s tech liaison and am getting to know our district tech coordinator very well. Got any tips so that I can stay on his good side?

I think your idea for creating a wiki for each school is a great idea.
As far as the podcasting goes, I have to teach myself every single time as well. I am hoping I will learn this time and that the steps to posting will stick in my memory.

That is a good idea for the schools to use. I saw the blog on a painted house- nice color- it is a big difference. Good job.

Wow! That’s an intense picture, Greg. Kind of intimidating. Ever put any of your recordings on line?

Hi Greg-
I’m back from Europe–do you think we need to resubmit our project in 570 for more points? I’m willing if you are.
